Trail mix varieties vary widely. You’ll learn the inside scoop on what to add, what to leave out, and how to tailor your homemade trail mix to your needs and preferences with the help of this guide below on how to make a healthy trail mix!

1. Nuts

You can use any type of nut in this recipe for a healthy trail mix! The best nuts to buy are those that are raw and haven’t been coated or roasted in salt and soybean or hydrogenated oils. If you’re a nut purist, leave them raw; otherwise, dry roast them at home for an extra toasty flavor.

2. Seeds

Do not disregard seeds! Although seeds are frequently disregarded in favor of nuts’ health advantages, they actually contain a powerful nutritional punch, including protein, iron, magnesium, and a variety of vitamins and minerals. Look for raw, unsalted seeds once more.

3. Dried Fruit

Due to their high sugar content, dried fruit makes a great snack to help raise low blood sugar levels following vigorous exercise. When picking dried fruit, be cautious! Try to find sun-dried fruit that is not coated in sugar and is preferably unsulfured. It’s pricier, but it’s worth it.
